Local Entrepreneurs Go the Distance — $50,000 Raised to Empower the Next Generation of Young Entrepreneurs.

PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs is celebrating an inspiring achievement as business leaders and community members came together for the inaugural Run for PowerPlay campaign. What began as a bold idea to “run for impact” quickly grew into an influential movement, raising more than $50,000 to support over 2,000 young entrepreneurs across Canada.

For several months, ten B.C. entrepreneurs have poured their energy into training, fundraising, and running together, motivated by a common purpose: to expand PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs’ reach and spark creativity and confidence in even more students. Additionally, more than 130 donors have contributed to the fundraiser.

"The inaugural “Run for Power Play" fundraiser was a huge success. It brought together 10 current entrepreneurs and runners, 100+ community donations, all to support the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”
says Ben Raps, PowerPlay alumnus and volunteer. “A marathon is a perfect metaphor for Entrepreneurship. It's difficult; day after day, year after year, all you can do is put one foot in front of another. It's about commitment, perseverance, and embracing discomfort. While it was inspirational to see everyone complete a gruelling 42 kilometeres, it was even more powerful to witness the community rally behind the mission. The success of "Run for Power Play" is incredibly exciting. What was an idea not long ago, is a fundraising event that will triple in size next year. More than anything, this is evidence of how the PowerPlay cause truly resonates with the local community.”

The funds raised will fuel lasting change by directly supporting the implementation of the PowerPlay classroom program, a six-week initiative that allows students in grades 4 through 8 to develop their own business ventures, set and achieve goals, and gain practical life skills. They put their plans into action at the Young Entrepreneur Show, a dynamic event where they interact with customers and earn money. In addition to building new competencies, the youth also give back to their local communities and the social causes they care about.

"Our community has demonstrated what is possible when generosity meets innovation. The outpouring of support from local entrepreneurs and donors means more young people will have the chance to explore their ideas and discover their potential," says Bill Roche, Program Creator and Executive Director of the charity. "We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this vision a reality. Every dollar raised is an investment in young minds who will one day shape Canada's future."

For many participants, the Run for PowerPlay campaign became a reflection of the entrepreneurial spirit itself. With vision, grit, and teamwork, an ambitious goal has now become reality. The ripple effect of their efforts will extend far beyond race day, equipping young people with the skills, mindset, and adaptability needed to navigate an ever-changing landscape, encouraging them to set goals, push their boundaries, and embrace innovative thinking.
